Verses 4-6: [4] For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether. [5] Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. [6] Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
The theme of God's omnicence extends to the very fact that God knows what we are going to speak before we open our mouth. Furthermore, in verse 5 the Psalmist acknowledges that God guides our life whether I think about that fact or not. I can't understand how a single God who controls billions of people and watches over the entire universe is also aware of and cares about every aspect of my life, but I simply accept it as true.
We serve a big God and it is beyond our human ability to comprehend how a single God can watch over us and guide our lives. God knows everything about everyone at every time, yet He is intimately interested in our individual lives.
What is the Psalmist David seeking to communicate? I believe the point here is that the author David is realizing He simply needs to accept by faith that his relationship with God is true as described in these verses. The point for you and me is that even though we can't explain how God works, we accept it as true and more importantly we accept the idea that He desires to guide our lives.
If we accept that God is there, and He is guiding our life, then what? Then it is a matter of us trusting the fact that He is guiding our lives and for us to learn what He desires of us. Then, if we accept His existence and accept His guidance, we need to regularly remind ourselves that He is there despite the fact we can't physically see Him work in our lives. Through His word and through prayer, He makes known what He desires of our lives.
