[15] As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
[16] For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.
These two verses give us two more illustrations of how short our lives are on earth. The temporary nature of life is compared to the brief blossoming of flowers and grass. The point is neither grass nor flowers live a very long life. No matter how long we get to live on earth, it is relatively short and is over before we know it. The point comes back to using our time wisely. One way to wisely use our time is to praise God for the life we do have. That praise not only gets our focus on Him, but gets us to appreciate our lives all the more than we have.
Isaiah the prophet uses the same metaphor in Isaiah 40:6-8, The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
[17] But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear Him, and His righteousness unto children's children;
[18] To such as keep His covenant, and to those that remember His commandments to do them.
Although we may struggle with unfaithfulness, God is ever faithful in His love and loyalty to His children. Generations come and go, but God’s love will never die for those who trust in Him.
We can have faith that His love for us will last for all of eternity. This is an amazing and perfect love in every way. These verses remind us that we ought to teach and share His love with others around us.
